Thursday was Republican Day at the fair, and the big event was the Republican Day Rally at noon with U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka and the party's candidates for Illinois governor.

Those candidates include state Sens. Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard, businessman Bruce Rauner and Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford.

Kirk encouraged fellow Illinois Republicans to look to his example and "never give up" in their quest to rebuild the party. Kirk suffered partial paralysis as a result of the January 2012 stroke. He took the In addition to the supplies, there will be fun activities for youngsters, free used clothing, health resources and personalized laminated bags manufacturer tags for backpacks.stage with the help of his four-pronged cane as attendees cheered. Kirk says Republicans' stance on fiscally conservative values will help protect Illinois from fiscal insolvency.

Party leaders vowed to recapture the governor's mansion and key congressional races to try and end years of Democratic control.

State comptroller Judy Baar Topinka said the state is adrift and in financially dire straits in Democratic hands and urged attendees to campaign hard in the months ahead.

State Sen.Crocs shoes store are an internationally known brand known for its off-beat look and all-weather durability. Bill Brady brought his running shoes to the meeting in Springfield. The Bloomington Republican is making his third bid for governor after losing to Gov. Pat Quinn by less than 1 percent in 2010. But Quinn cracked Wednesday that his win left Brady "looking for his running shoes."

Brady told attendees Thursday that it was "game on" for the Republican Party, pledging to finish the job he started

He says it's difficult for a candidate to get his name out on a statewide level. After his previous bids, he said he has the name recognition that's needed to win.

Rutherford said he has the statewide connections to win the state's crowded GOP primary.

He told attendees that "a great part of success is just showing up."

The former state senator from Chenoa says he's been to dinners, events and meetings throughout the state making connections with different communities and ethnic groups.Shop High quality Hiking shoes and outdoor clothing for men, women and kids at www.qdgoutdoor.com.

He also touted his success in winning a statewide race as treasurer and says he understands the importance of earning enough votes in the city of Chicago.

But Dillard said he has experience that money can't buy. As the former chief of staff to Gov. Jim Edgar, Dillard said he understands Illinois better than the three other primary candidates.

He said as governor he'd work with the Legislature so the debt-laden state can begin to live within its means.

Dillard lost a 2010 primary challenge to Bloomington state Sen. Bill Brady by 193 votes.

He says he showed how to unify the party by quickly moving to endorse Brady.

But Rauner turned heads when he rolled up to the fair on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, appearing as an "every man" while promising to shake things up in Springfield.

The Winnetka venture capitalist said Republicans have come through the most challenging period in history. He wants to increase fundraising, recruiting and change the party's message.Shop for Women's Shoes FitFlop Shoes Sandals & other designer brands at www.sassonshoes.com.

Andile Yawa took his first train journey 36 years ago – to the mines. He was 20. "I didn't have a blanket, only a blazer, and my mother had bought me a pair of second-hand shoes that were too tight," he says. "That was the first time I wore shoes."

Andile worked at Vaal Reefs Mine as a rock driller until he fell ill in 2008 and was medically boarded. As is customary, he asked management if one of his seven sons could replace him. Instead of his eldest, Luxolo, Andile chose Cebisile, the third-born, because he was "stronger" than the others, "patient" and a "perfectionist" – qualities ideal for a rock driller.

Cebisile worked at Vaal Reefs for a few years before moving to Lonmin,Shop online for water shoes at the lowest prices at www.qdgoutdoor.com.High Quality water shoes where he worked for just under 18 months. He was 25-years-old when he was killed at Marikana.

Andile Yawa is a proud man, as hard as the hills he lives in, with a steely resolve and a clear notion of duty and tradition. With his family gathered around him on the evening of Cebisile's cleansing ceremony, he closes his eyes and shakes his head slowly.

"I blame myself for my son's death because if I didn't fall ill, Cebisile would be alive now. I'm still broken about it," he says. "They cut his life short and he was a young man who still had to make a family, who still had to build a life."

He speaks in a measured tone. Men do not cry in this part of the world. In the Mthingwevu mountain range near Cala in the Eastern Cape real men are bound to their families and by tradition. They go to the mines because the only other option is subsistence farming and survival can be capricious.

Andile and his older brother Zamla became miners because their family was "very poor" and they "had no options" as neither had gone far in school. The brothers started on R60 (£4) a month at Vaal Reefs and with that money built the family home and put their two younger siblings, who are now teachers, through school.

Cebisile's remittance of R5 000 (£320) a month was used to buy goats and cattle and to fence off farming land and a plot where he planned to build a house.Buy high quality cheap filter mesh products from china reliable filter mesh manufacturers and suppliers on www.sihongfilter.com with free shipping and worldwide delivery.filter mesh suppliers It was also used "so that his siblings could go to school".

Mandla, one of Cebisile's younger brothers, is studying for a BSc in agriculture at Fort Hare University. His fees, together with school fees for his four younger siblings, have now been taken over by Lonmin.

But Andile says there is still a "huge gap" in the family's budget. They get by on his disability grant of R1 200 a month and the R290 each he gets for his son Siphelele and his two youngest children, the twins: Mkhuleli and Khuselwa. There is an additional R290 for Cebisile's three-year-old daughter, Sisipho.

Cebisile had much in common with his father. "He was a man amongst men," says Andile. "He never had bad intentions, he took a lot after me in that regard.Choose quality Outdoor Hiking Footwear Manufacturers, suppliers & exporters now."

A neighbour who has come to bear witness to the cleansing ceremony remarks upon the similarities during the formal speeches: "He loved farming, like you.Welcome! We're Breathing Color, designer and Inkjet canvas Suppliers, fine art paper, photo paper, and print varnish for fine art and photographic reproduction. He was disciplined, like you ... He is a great loss to this community." Cebisile's siblings agree that he was the strong, silent type. Much like their father.

The kraal, the scared place where the ancestors roam, and where much of the cleansing ceremony takes place, including the sacrifice of animals – so that the ancestors will accept Cebisile's soul – is also the site of happy memories.

It is where the family celebrated the "many things" Cebisile or his siblings achieved. A sheep would be slaughtered and "we would sit around and I would tell the stories that my mother or father used to tell me,hiking boots sale On Sale - Shop our selection of Hiking Boots On Sale,www.qdgoutdoor.com." says Andile.

The most recent celebration the patriarch remembers was when Cebisile returned from the mines in December 2011 to weed and plough his father's fields. "He did it so well that I had to slaughter a sheep just for him and then slaughtered another one for his other brothers and sister."

Since his time on the mines some things have changed, Andile says, but many others have not. It was risky being a rock driller in the 80s, but "I had no options. I didn't go to school and I had to ensure that the children had a better future. Cebisile too, he wasn't good in school so I decided to send him there and he also supported his family."

The Australian philosopher Peter Singer asks students to consider whether a person wearing new shoes and a suit has a responsibility to wade into a nearby pond, thus ruining their clothes, if they see a child in that pond having difficulty swimming.

Predictably they respond that the person has a responsibility to save the child and that the cost of the shoes and suit are no reason not to act.

In other words,APL Machinery is a manufacturer of UV coating curing systems, screen printing, postpress, PVC profile printing and {%} machines, and Vegra is a manufacturer of dispersion coatings, fountain solutions, specific purpose coatings, cleaning and maintenance products and printing aids.ppnonwovenbag you either think that people have inherent dignity and worth, or not. In the eyes of the bystander, that dignity does not depend on whether you have a personal link to the child or not.

This humanist approach sits comfortably alongside my Christian ethical viewpoint - in the parable of the Good Samaritan, the help afforded a stranger did not depend on cultural or ethnic ties.

In 21st century Australia it is disheartening to think that some in mainstream politics would choose to keep walking past the pond, as the architects of evermore oppressive policies concerning asylum seekers appear to be prepared to do.

The loss of focus on human dignity in our political debate is evident in framing the contemporary argument around refugees and boat arrivals as a "problem" to be "solved".

Rather, it should concern every Australian that there are children in our detention centres who are living unhappy lives: lives behind bars, lives that were already blighted in some way by the circumstances which pushed their families from their homes, lives that are suspended.

In a democracy like Australia, politicians take their cue from what they understand to be public opinion.

So when we as a nation, as citizens, as respondents to opinion polls are either complacent about this issue or complicit in the punitive approach to asylum seekers, we have lost something that sits at the core of a decent society. How did this happen?

On the policymakers' side, the courting of political favour through the demonising of vulnerable people is undignified, repugnant and venal.

Australia is in urgent need of a change of heart.

As head of a child-focused aid and development organisation, I am continually humbled by the hospitality I receive from refugees fleeing from unimaginable violence, instability and natural calamity.

Most recently I was invited into the tents of Syrian families who had fled across the border to Jordan.

As urban planners go to work in these giant refugee camps - in recognition that the prospects of peace and stability returning to Syria in the medium term are remote - displaced people have told me their stories.

Their hospitality crosses cultural and religious divides, as well as the fact that I am a stranger, as they tell me about their fears for the future of their children.

I have witnessed the boredom and frustration of refugee kids who simply want to be in school, because that gives them the best chance of achieving their dreams.

When the hope that resides in the hearts of children is in danger of flickering out, then that is a true humanitarian emergency. And that is why I believe we stand, as a society,Industrial Bag Filters Manufacturer‎ supply cheap and high quality bags. guilty.

We have let ourselves conflate the issues surrounding asylum seekers with any number of anxieties we face - from budget deficits to job security. The most distracting and distorting of these perceived links has been the linking of boat arrivals with security risks.

This fearmongering sows the seeds of distrust and envy.By using Fitflop you are not handled in any respect. Regardless of your decision, you can discover the job inside of the Fitflop sandals sale boot. It is the opposite approach of sitting down with someone and learning their story.

And letting fear dominate the discourse also diminishes our way of life, and our democratic ideals.

The inherent worth of human beings is just that - inherent - not subject to fashion and fickle political manipulation. This worth and dignity is denied when we as a nation ban asylum seekers from working - even in a volunteer capacity. It is holding back human industry and aspiration.

It amounts to a brazen attempt to worsen the life chances of others who weren't born in this "lucky" country.

I call on all people who agree that there is inherent worth in every person, not be embarrassed to be pro-people. To see the potential in every person fleeing conflict, disaster and persecution. To respect their quest for some semblance of personal security. And to be pro-children - to support them to imagine a better future, not a life limited by incarceration.

Perhaps it's time for an honest assessment of the drivers of this fear and anxiety in our society, directed towards those who arrive via ocean.

There is much anxiety over the economy, the budget, debt, jobs - if the media are any guide.

It's intellectually and morally lazy to allow our fears about the economy and jobs and debt, fitflop shoes sale manage to combine the latest in biomechanically engineered technology with stylish designs. to be projected onto human bogymen in the form of asylum seekers.

A more productive approach would be to consciously and conscientiously focus on what we've got to be hopeful about in this country, and how we can welcome those who are motivated to contribute. We have the best Designer Cheap Sunglasses Online‎ at discount prices and FREE SHIPPING for men, women.

Every school-age child in North Iowa is excited beyond words at the prospect of a new school year.

Perhaps that is a bit of an exaggeration.

Their parents, however? Giddy is a probably an apt description.

Whether you are feeling giddy or depressed at the advent of the 2013-14 school year, I have two pieces of advice for parents to ensure a great year: If your kid is complaining about their teacher, back the teacher. And buy the red shoes.

The summer before seventh grade my dad took me shoe shopping. Why dad took me instead of my mom is lost to the ages. Suffice to say that it was the one and only time I recall Dad being involved in the back-to-school madness.

That year, as in every previous year, I’d been allowed to pick out fabric and patterns for my school clothes. My mom sewed all of our clothes. They might as well have made me wear sackcloth and ashes; I hated my homemade clothes.

My mom is an incredible seamstress, so it wasn’t that my outfits were poorly made. It was the fact that they were homemade. I wanted cool store-bought,Industrial Bag Filters Manufacturer‎ supply cheap and high quality bags. cheaply made dresses like everyone else. Instead, I was forced to wear well-made, custom-tailored clothes made just for me with love. How cruel.

That summer I selected fabric in various prints and solids with a single unifying theme. I was going to sail through seventh grade sporting purple in all its lovely shades. Purple dresses, purple skirts and purple pantsuits (ask your mom, she’ll explain). Purple was my favorite color and I was going to rock it every chance I could. My grandmother had knit me a groovy purple potholder vest. I was going to be the Laurie Partridge (again, ask your mom) of seventh grade.

So, for whatever reason,APL Machinery is a manufacturer of UV coating curing systems, screen printing, postpress, PVC profile printing and {%} machines, and Vegra is a manufacturer of dispersion coatings, fountain solutions, specific purpose coatings, cleaning and maintenance products and printing aids.ppnonwovenbagfitflop shoes sale manage to combine the latest in biomechanically engineered technology with stylish designs. it was Dad and I at the shoe store in search of school shoes.

From the front window, the hottest pair of shoes I’d ever seen beckoned like a lighthouse to a ship at sea: Bright red, patent-leather loafers with chunky wooden heels. Cinderella would have dumped the prince in a heartbeat in exchange for super-cool shoes like those.

Being a guy, my dad had no clue that those hot red shoes were going to look ridiculous with all my purple clothes. Or maybe he did and he was just being a great dad. He bought me those outrageous shoes without a single question. I have a profound love for gorgeous footwear and something tells me it started with those red loafers.

I don’t remember my mom’s exact words when I modeled my new shoes for her but I seem to recall the words “impractical,” “ridiculous” and “Bill, what were you thinking?”

The school year between sixth grade and eighth was just as awkward,By using Fitflop you are not handled in any respect. Regardless of your decision, you can discover the job inside of the Fitflop sandals sale boot. embarrassing and agonizing for students then as it is now. The onset of puberty, overactive oil glands and middle school guarantee you’ll never see someone’s seventh-grade school picture as their profile picture on Facebook. We have the best Designer Cheap Sunglasses Online‎ at discount prices and FREE SHIPPING for men, women.

With so much uncertainty and shaky self-esteem floating around, seventh-grade can be the stuff of nightmares. But somehow those red shoes made me feel good about myself even when no one made room for me at the cool kids’ table in the lunchroom.

Staring down at those shiny red kicks didn’t give me the answers during math tests but they did remind me to be confident and try.

My beloved shoes did not get me elected to the student senate seat I coveted but they did remind me that somebody thought I was cool.

My patent leather loafers with the chunky wooden heels didn’t match a single piece of clothing that I wore that year but I wore them every single day.

So when you’re school shopping with your kid this year and he or she points out an outrageously impractical pair of shoes or other article of clothing, buy it.

Even if there’s not a single thing she owns that’s going to match, whatever it is, buy it — ‘cause every kid needs a pair of red shoes.

South Carolina center Cody Waldrop has yet to play a down of college football and he’s replacing a fifth-year senior who started a school-record 53 consecutive games over the last four years.

Neither Waldrop nor the Gamecocks’ coaches seem to view this as a cause for concern.

“I tell you one thing, you better be confident in somebody who has to replace a fifth-year senior,Suppliers of outdoor footwear, outdoor footwear, hiking shoes, training shoes, safety shoes, work shoes, sandals, hiking footwear, safety footwear, work ...” said offensive line coach Shawn Elliott. “You better not be halfway here or halfway there. You better be behind one of them. And if they feel like there’s not confidence, how do you think they’re going to feel taking the field? He works hard. Yes, I’m confident in him. Waldrop, a 6-foot-2, 319-pound redshirt freshman from Seffner, Fla., played guard in high school. But when he redshirted last season,A High Quality Hiking boots is a necessity for any individual who considers him or herself serious about hiking. the coaches decided to begin grooming him to replace senior T.J. Johnson.

Waldrop began spring practice as the starting center and has done nothing but solidify his position, although he had some problems adjusting to snapping in the shotgun.

“We had a rough patch in the spring,” Waldrop said. “I took a shot to the leg and I had trouble bending down, but we’re good to go now. The snaps have been really good the past few days.”

Waldrop said the redshirt year was beneficial in his development.

“Not only the sit and learn part because I knew the whole play book coming into this camp, but the strength and conditioning program, building a lot of strength over that redshirt year,” Waldrop said. “That helped a lot.”

Another factor that helps is Waldrop is surrounded by experienced players on the line. He’s the only newcomer.

“If I don’t know the play, all I’ve got to do is reach over either side and they’re going to know it like the back of their hand,” he said. “Not saying that I don’t know the plays.”

The starting job is Waldrop’s to lose, and at the present time, no one is making up any ground.

Clayton Stadnik, another redshirt freshman,Free shipping and returns on Buy FitFlop Women's Shoes at www.sassonshoes.com. is penciled in as Waldrop’s backup, but Stadnik may be challenged for that role.

“Waldrop is whipping his tail right now,” Elliott said of Stadnik. “He’s beating the fool out of him. Right now, he’s not in the conversation. Unless he turns it around, it could be a true freshman backing him up.”

Waldrop appreciates the confidence the coaching staff has placed in him, but he also knows he’s going to have to back it up.

“Obviously, I’ve got huge shoes to fill,” he said. “Just make sure that when you get out there, you better be ready, because they’re expecting you to be. I’ll be ready.Welcome! Around these parts, school takes up this week. It is also a time when you will begin to notice parents and grandparents walking around in a daze. The blank stare comes from the arduous and financially draining task of back to school shopping.

Last week, we decided to help out two of our grandkids by buying their back to school supplies. When I was a kid, I remember needing little more than a pen, a pencil and a couple of spiral notebooks. Well guess what buckaroos that’s ancient history.A High Quality Hiking boots is a necessity for any individual who considers him or herself serious about hiking.

I now know that every school, every class, and just about every individual teacher has their own list of required not suggested back to school supplies. To make things handy, school districts even provide printed school supply lists to local stores and those stores display the goods in one central location...for the most part.

After burning the wheels off a Target store shopping cart last Saturday evening, we were able to locate almost everything on the required school supply list of two kids. The grand total was $176.49. Unfortunately, that didn’t include a can of rubber cement and a kindergarten nap mat. I’m sure the store had them somewhere, but after an hour and a half of searching, I gave up, went to the isle where they sell wine and called it a night.

Things have certainly changed over the past five or six decades. When I was a kid, back to school shopping at the Wells ranch involved a mail order catalog and a last minute stop at Tickner’s grocery store in Carmi.

“Miss Tick”, as we called her, made sure her store had a good stock of spiral notebooks,Welcome! No. 2 Ticonderoga pencils,We have the best Designer Cheap Sunglasses Online‎ at discount prices and FREE SHIPPING for men, women. erasers and Elmer’s glue. What else would you need? I don’t ever remember buying an ink pen. Those were free and came from the local bank.

Back to school clothes didn’t come from a big city shopping mall. That’s where the mail order catalog came in. Mom knew all we needed was a new pair of shoes,Light Hiking shoes for sale: Resembling burly running shoes, these low-cut models with flexible midsoles are excellent for day hiking. a couple pair of jeans and some new underwear.Shop for Women's Shoes FitFlop Shoes Sandals & other designer brands at www.sassonshoes.com.

Because the shoe sizing chart in the back of the catalog was so unreliable, I don’t ever remember getting a pair of shoes that fit right out of the box. If they were a bit snug, that’s when we used the “shoe stretchers” that were in the back of the closet. If they were a bit too big, mom would always say “you’ll grow into them”. That was that.

As poorly funded as schools are these days, I’m surprised that parents aren’t asked to chip in on janitorial supplies and help pay the light bill. Merciful sakes alive, I don’t know how some families can afford to send their kids to back to school year after year.

With the end of the summer break looming, kids across Niagara will soon start getting excited about the start of a new year and the new clothes, new backpacks and new school supplies they’ll get.

Most kids, anyway. For many, starting school can mean heading off on the first day with tattered shoes, a backpack with patches in it and few if any school supplies.

Many families across Niagara who are struggling to put food on the table simply can’t afford the expense of new shoes, clothes, backpacks and supplies for a child.

That’s why Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold is once again asking the public to step up and help make the return to school a happy occasion to kids in the two cities.

The annual Snacks ‘n Sneakers campaign is fast approaching its wrap-up, and the need out there is greater than ever, said Sheila Smith, non woven bags wholesale made with your brand and logos at discount prices. manager of Community Care’s branch manager.

The charity is seeing demand at its food banks being pushed to unprecedented levels.

Smith said she used to serve 150 to 170 kids a month at her branch’s food bank. That number has now passed 200.

Community Care is hoping to outfit about 3,000 children with basic supplies through the drive, including a backpack, lunch bag, school supplies, new shoes and snacks.

They’re getting a boost with the help of the Village Church in Thorold, which has set up donation barrels for those goods at Tangles Hair Shop and Ricky’s Big School on Front Street, St. John’s Anglican Church, Foodland at the Pine Street Plaza and the Thorold Community Activities Group headquarters at 131 Richmond St. People can also drop them off at the Battle of Beaverdams Park on Sunday while the church congregation meets there from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Smith said the donated materials will be distributed to families on Aug. 21, so the agency is hoping to have the goods donated by this Friday to give staff the time to organize the shoes and stuff the backpacks with the goods.

“It’s quite a process to get ready for it all,” she said.

Hilda VanderKlippe, community connections co-ordinator with the Village Church, said it’s the second year in a row that her church congregation has teamed up with Community Care for the Snacks ‘n Sneakers program.www.bagfilterchina.com,a leading Cheap filter cloth on sale manufacturer and supplier that uses automatic manufacturing equipment for reliable, consistent filter cloth. Church members, who regularly collect food for the agency and put together Christmas boxes for families in need, are following Jesus’ example with their community work, she said.

“We are a church that seeks to serve and be a blessing in the community,” she said.

The need out there is very real, said VanderKlippe.

“It is a sad reality that there are families who struggle to buy new shoes for their kids every year and who could use help with providing nutritious lunches,” she said. “We are eager to help.”

She urged people to donate shoes and school supplies.

“You’ll be blessing a local family with your generosity,” she said.
