Sumfest delivers care to Cornwall Regional

Summerfest Productions executives made a cheque presentation last Friday to We Care's Mark Hart and CRH's Anthony Smikle, acting chief executive officer. 

The money will go towards fixing a sterilisation unit at the paediatric ward. The estimated cost for a steriliser is US$35,000 ($3.5 million). 

Speaking to The Gleaner during the presentation, Summerfest Productions Executive Director Johnny Gourzong said the hospital was one of three major projects the company had earmarked for attention. 

The others are the Montego Bay Boys' and Girls' Club Band and the University of the West Indies, Mona, Western Jamaica Campus' Caribbean Media and Communication (CARIMAC) unit. 

CARIMAC received a cheque for an undisclosed amount on June 10.

Heartened by the gesture, Hart said as a community he and the team were cognisant of the fact the hospital was the heart of the city. 

"Every single one of us can rely on the facility as a first response."

The donation of a steriliser unit is only one of a number of initiatives that We Care has undertaken since its birth in 2011. Currently, the organisation has ordered two nebulisers for the paediatric unit valued at $6 million from the money made by the Rainforest Seafood Festival. "They will be here by next month," said Hart.
